Development of dipole-dipole intermolecular forces in the vibration spectra of organic compounds

III. Line Width

  • Published:
Soviet Physics Journal Aims and scope

Abstract

Possible line broadening of the vibrational spectra of organic liquids as a result of intermolecular vibrational reactions has been theoretically assessed. It has been shown that the frequency scattering connected with fluctuations in the energy of local electrostatic forces can explain the width observed in some cases. It has been found possible to link line broadening with the temperature behavior of the frequencies.
