Calculation of the work of formation of a chlorine vacancy in a Nacl crystal

  • Published:
Soviet Physics Journal Aims and scope

Abstract

Tolpygo's microscopic theory is used; the result is 3.066 eV. The Schottky calculation for the energy of formation of a pair of defects in NaCl gives 2.047 eV, whereas experiment gives 2.02 eV. The possible reasons for the discrepancy are discussed.
