Abstract
The relation between the hysteresis loop area of polycrystalline barium titanate and preliminary sample processing is examined. It is shown that the loop area decreases after prolonged action of a dc electric field at increased temperature. This indicates that the dielectric loss tangent is reduced in a sample subjected to this treatment. It would seem that the presence of a large space charge, accumulated in the sample during its polarization at increased temperature, affects and changes its ferroelectric properties.
