Dielectric breakdown due to ionization of internal gas occlusions

  • Published:
Soviet Physics Journal Aims and scope

Conclusions

The experimental results of the above investigations justify the following conclusions:

  1. 1.

Ionization in gas gaps (occlusions) of an intensity lower than some critical level acting on a dielectric leads to its breakdown by surface erosion.

  2. 2.

lonization of an intensity equal to or higher than some critical level acting on a dielectric causes physico-chemical dielectric-breakdown processes at a considerable depth from the dielectric surface experiencing the effect of ionization, leading to a sharp reduction in its service life.
