Metal Science and Heat Treatment of Metals Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

Steel EI909 with suitable heat treatment has high mechanical and relaxational properties at 565–570°C (1050–1060°F), which indicate the possibility of using it for fastening elements (flange connections) in steam-power equipment operating at up to 140 atm. pressure and temperatures up to 570°C.

  2. 2.

A study of the aging of steel EI909 at 600°C for 2000 hours showed that it has sufficiently stable properties.

  3. 3.

Steel EI909 can be hardened by boronizing and nitriding, so that it can be used for the spindles and guides of stuffing boxes of valves at steam temperatures of up to 570°C.
