Conclusion

The initial mixture composition for production of controlled carbon-containing atmospheres, and, consequently their hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and to a lesser degree their nitrogen content, must be taken into account as a factor influencing the equipment service life. Uncontrolled, high carbon potentials of the atmospheres at the surfaces of the furnace components is one of the reasons for the short service life of these components, especially of heating elements.
