Conclusions
-
1.
The expressions thus obtained serve to evaluate signal distortions due to tape velocity fluctuations and to SAM in PFM and PPM recording.
-
2.
In order to account for the effect of SAM on PFM recording, it is necessary to know the Ordinate of the correlation function KA (τ) of the response amplitude variations process A (t) for the argument τ=T0.
-
3.
In evaluating the PPM recording distortions it is necessary to take into account the correlation of response amplitude envelopes in a single track and mutual correlations of the envelopes in tracks used for reference and information signals.
-
4.
The effect of the SAM component depends on the resolution of the magnetic tape-head system and the modulation parameters. This component can be made adequately small by a correct selection of the above factors.
