Sintering of mixtures of tungsten and rhenium powders

Conclusions

When the sintering of a mixture of tungsten and rhenium powders is accompanied by intense diffusional interaction between the components, the composition dependence of shrinkage has a minimum. An x-ray investigation has shown that use of a fine tungsten powder intensifies the formation of tungsten-rich alloys. The reason why the composition dependence of shrinkage has a minimum with a fine powder and is monotonic with a coarse one is that diffusional interaction is more vigorous in the former case, and this apparently promotes the manifestation of shrinkage inhibition due to Frenkel's effect.
