Conclusions

A study was made of the sintering of nonstoichiometric nickel oxide in argon and oxygen atmospheres. It is shown that the sintering of this compound is less intense in oxygen than in argon. This is apparently attributable to the fact that sintering in oxygen reduces the gradient of the chemical potential of oxygen in the nickel oxide lattice, while intensified surface diffusion decreases the gradient of pressure potential.
