Reactions of zirconium nitride with alumina and molybdenum

  • Published:
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

A study was made of the reactions of zirconium nitride with alumina in argon and in nitrogen. It was established that nitrogen promotes the formation of a new phase and intensifies the reaction between the nitride and oxide.

  2. 2.

The reaction between zirconium nitride and molybdenum is accompanied by the formation of a molyb-denum-base solid solution.

  3. 3.

The strength of the joints in ZrN-Al2O3 and ZrN-Mo specimen pairs grows with increasing time of contact.

  4. 4.

The electrical resistivity of specimens from ZrN-Al2O3 powder mixtures sintered in nitrogen is an order higher than that of similar specimens sintered in argon.
