Conclusions

  1. 1.

    By ion nitriding of structural steels for 6–15 h it is possible to obtain a case depth of 0.2–0.4 mm with hardness HV 550-1100 and good mechanical properties.

     
  2. 2.

    The most logical area of applications for ion nitriding in machine tool construction is serial and large-scale production. It is expedient to use the process for hardening gear wheels, guide screws, guide screws, clutches, spindles, and tail spindles.
