Conclusions
An experimental investigation of 45 silver-base composites has confirmed that on contact (anode and cathode) surfaces an arc discharge attacks the phase of lowest thermal conductivity. The presence of refractory particles in silver-base contact composites intensifies the erosion of anodically polarized contacts to the point where the sign of mass transfer changes (structural inversion). Particles of second phases having thermal properties (in particular Tm) close to those of silver alter least the character and quantitative indicators of the latter's erosion. The addition of low-melting-point particles intensifies mass transfer from the cathode to the anode.
