Conclusions
The probable mechanism of failure of the hard alloy in contact with zinc was examined. It is shown that formation of the zinc-cobalt solution in the pores of the hard alloy leads to embrittlement of the alloy. The probable reason for failure of the hard alloy may be the formation of the forces of solidification pressure associated with the structural rearrangement in the presence of the zinc melt, especially with the formation of γ-Co5Zn2 intermetallic compound.
