Conclusions
-
1.
A study was made of the process of high-temperature oxidation of TiB2-TiSi2 alloys exposed for 7 h to air at temperatures of 1000 and 1200‡C; oxidized specimens were investigated metallographically and by x-ray diffraction.
-
2.
It was established that the alloys are more resistant to oxidation than are pure TiB2 and TiSi2.
-
3.
The high protective qualities of boric anhydride and silica and the characteristics of their formation promote the appearance of silicon monoxide and titanium and silicon nitrides in the scale of the alloys.
