Abrasive wear resistance and character of rupture of the surface layers of titanium and zirconium borides

  • Published:
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The wear of specimens of titanium and zirconium borides exposed to a two-phase stream is determined by the angle of attack (maximum wear is observed at an angle of 60°), the combination of the microhardness and plasticity of the materials, and the degree of localization of the valence electrons in the stable configurations sp2 or sp3.

  2. 2.

The wear resistance of titanium and zirconium borides is seven to 10 times that of Kh18N10T steel.
