Conclusions

  1. 1.

It is shown that polycrystals of cubic boron nitride can be produced on a VK4 hard-metal backing by noncatalytic synthesis.

  2. 2.

Polycrystalline specimens of cubic boron nitride were obtained on titanium backings.

  3. 3.

It was established that at high pressures and temperatures titanium reacts with boron nitride, with the formation of titanium nitride and titanium borides.

  4. 4.

A study was made of the resistance of two-layer tips to oxidation by air during heating to 1200°K. The tips investigated were found to be capable of being brazed onto tool shanks.
