1.
A study was made of the conditions of preparation and temperature range of stability of the tungsten boride WB4. It was established that WB4 forms already at 1650°C and remains in the structure right up to its melting point (2200°C) [3].

2.
It is shown that tungsten tetraboride forms only in the presence of excess boron in the charge. Charges with M∶B ratios varying from 1∶4.5 to 1∶12 yield a boride of composition WB4, which crystallizes in the hexagonal system with the space group D 46h −P63/mmc.

3.
The microhardness of tungsten tetraboride was measured and found to be 4000±200 kg/mm2-a value close to that reported by Lundström.
