Conclusions

An analysis of the accuracy possible in the experimental determination of the apparent densities and open, total, and closed porosities of spray-deposited coatings has demonstrated that the hydrostatic weighing method permits reliable determination of only the first two of these parameters. Use of the parameters ∏ and ∏cl in conjunction with the hydrostatic weighing method for assessing the properties of multiphase spray-deposited coatings and the quality of deposition conditions is not recommended. To minimize the effect of random factors in the coating impregnation process on the accuracy of determination of parameters and simplify the weighing operation, a special apparatus has been developed.
