Summary
The transfer matrix of a layer is derived from the dynamic equations of a continuum reinforced with very thin unstretchable membranes. For the case of a periodically spaced reinforcement, the finite difference method enables to find closed solutions. The elastic wave propagation in a half-space is investigated, and it is shown that the only possible nonattenuating wave has the velocityc 2 of the shear wave.
