Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    Steel ÉP817 quenched from 1000° (1 h)+cold treatment at−70° for 2 h+aging at 510° for 3 h has a better combination of physical and mechanical properties than steel VNS-2 quenched from 1000° (1 h) and aged at 410–450° for 3 h.

  2. 2.

Heating in the range of 400–450° induces, along with aging, destabilization of retained austenite, which is accompanied by local stresses. This has a substantial effect on the technological and operational reliability of the steel.
