Abstract
Strand-like structures with a diameter of about 50 Å are observed in the raw and averaged electron microscopical images of the largeEscherichia coli subunit. These ‘strands’ seem to be of a ribonucleoprotein nature. A tentative model of a three-dimensional arrangement of 12 such ‘strands’ is proposed, explaining the observed superposition pattern in different particle views and fit well the known morphological models.
