Investigation of lube oil additive exhaustion by photomicrography

  • Published:
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

It has been shown by the studies reported herein that methods such as total base number, DSP (dispersingstabilizing properties), and transparency of oil-naphtha mixtures, when used to evaluate additive exhaustion, give noncomparable results in a significant number of cases.

  2. 2.

The proposed direct method of determining additive exhaustion by photomicrography gives an additional possibility for a direct rating of the dispersant effectiveness of an additive.
