Conclusions

1.
We investigated the influence of addition of simple and complex carbides of group-IV and group-V elements on the porosity and hardness of sintered nickel. It was shown that specimens containing 1% by volume of simple and complex carbides had the minimum porosity after pressing and sintering.
-
2.
Sintered nickel — carbide compositions annealed at high temperatures and deformed by 50% had a higher hardness than carbide-free nickel subjected to the same treatment. Hardness increased with the carbide content of the nickel.
-
3.
Carbide-containing nickel alloys were less resistant to oxidation at 1050°C than compact nickel.
-
4.
X-ray analysis of the nickel — carbide alloys showed that the lattice parameters of the nickel remained virtually unchanged. This indicates that the carbides had low solubility in the nickel at 1100°C.
