Diffusion impregnation of iron powder with chromium

  • Published:
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics Aims and scope

Summary

Data are presented on the mechanism of diffusion chromizing of iron powder as a means of obtaining iron-chromium alloys of different compositions and on the part played by various reactions depending on the alloy composition and chromizing technique. It is shown that, irrespective of the method of chromizing, the chromium-impregnation process of iron is based not only on the substitution reaction, but also on the reduction of chromium chlorides by hydrogen.
