Conclusions

The optimum heat treatment conditions for case hardened 18KhNVA steel resulting in a stable hardness HRC>60 are quenching from 780–800°C in oil or air and subsequent treatment at −70°C for 20–30 min followed by tempering for 2 h at 150–160°C.
