Influence of cold straightening on the mechanical and service properties of 30KhMA steel cylinders

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    Cold deformation on a press may be used for correcting the geometry of cylinders rejected after heat treatment for increased out-of-round.

     
  2. 2.

    Cylinders of 30KhMA steel subjected to cold deformation on a press to correct out-of-round must be retempered at 540–560°C.

     
  3. 3.

    After cold straightening on a press with subsequent tempering cylinders possess a high actual strength safety factor and resistance of the material to brittle fracture at low temperatures (T50≤−70°C) and also a sufficient reserve of toughness, low sensitivity to a notch, and resistance to failure development in the whole range of operating temperatures, which characterizes their high service reliability.
