Conclusions
A description is given of the preparation of mixed Be-BeO powders by grinding beryllium shavings and subjecting the resulting powder to oxidation in air or an Ar + O2 mixture at 600–800°C. Composite Be-BeO materials with up to 12 wt.% BeO were obtained by hot pressing at temperatures of 1150–1200°C and pressures of 50–120 kg/cm2 and submitted to tests in which their porosity, structure, tensile strength, Young's and shear moduli, creep resistance, thermal conductivity, and evaporation rate were investigated.
