Summary
The authors have investigated the changes taking place in microstructure and submicrostructure during the sintering of tungsten specimens with small additions of nickel and palladium and during the annealing of deformed specimens of these materials. It is shown that unipolar diffusion of tungsten into nickel is apparently the cause of activated sintering and of accelerated growth of mosaic blocks during annealing after deformation, and results in the appearance of excess vacancies on the tungsten side. These vacancies promote the displacement of dislocations in the material.
