Abrasive power of refractory compounds

  • Published:
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

Experimental conditions have been established under which greater reliability may be achieved in the determination of the abrasive power of refractory materials.

  2. 2.

It is shown that some refractory compounds are not inferior as regards their physicomechanical and chemical characteristics to the existing abrasives, and merit further investigation. For instance, the abrasive power of tungsten boride is greater than that of electrocorundum. Apart from this, in contrast to electrocorundum, tungsten boride does not react chemically with titanium or its alloys, which provides a basis for the successful utilization of W2B5 as an abrasive material.
