Summary
-
1.
Confirmation has been obtained for Bal'shin's hypothesis and the results of [4] concerning the dependence of the lateral pressure coefficient on density.
-
2.
Equations (1) and (2) do not agree with experimental data. For instance, according to Eq. (1), the lateral pressure coefficient of an iron compact of 100% density is 0.38. According to our data, the value of this coefficient is 0.67 [Eq. (5)]. The higher value of the coefficient is clearly due to the fact that, in the derivation of Eq. (1), no allowance was made for the plastic deformation of particles which is observed at high pressures.
-
3.
The linear relationship between plat and P reported in [2, 3] has not been confirmed.
