For comparative pharmacological studies, a series of quaternary salts of basic esters of cinnamic acid and of their derivatives, homologs, and analogs have been obtained. Among the compounds tested the highest curare-like activity was shown by the methiodides of theδ-dimethylaminobutyl esters of cinnamic acid and also by methoxy-and p-nitro-substituted cinnamic acids. The quaternary salts of the corresponding amides or esters containing lypophilic groups were considerably less active.
