Rigidity of spherical bands

Abstract

A method of numerical calculation of an imperfect spherical band (truncated spherical shell) subjected to external pressure is proposed and tested. It is shown that the calculated and experimental values of the critical loads agree with introduction into the calculation of local axially symmetric initial imperfections.
