Conclusion

2-Substituted 2-propargylindan-1,3-diones were prepared by treating the salt of 2-substituted 1,3-indandione with propargyl bromide. Aminomethylation of the product with paraformaldehyde and secondary amines afforded a series of 2-substituted 2-(δ-aminobutynyl)indan-1,3-diones which exhibit depressant effects on the central nervous system.
