Abstract
Treatment approaches that only address very young children's environments or their family systems and exclude the child are frequently insufficient. Often direct psychotherapy of the preschool child should be the treatment of choice. This article uses a theoretical perspective that integrates ego psychology and systems theory to enable assessment and treatment from a dual perspective. Case illustration is presented.
