Abstract
Solution is obtained for the nonsymmetric multifrontal Stefan problem for the case of joining plates made from copper and steel. Differing from the symmetric problem, here it is noted that a solid zone close to the contact appears in both plates. The melt is completely solidified in 3 μsec, which is comparable to the time for the possible arrival of tensile stresses.
