Abstract
Data are presented relating to the surface treatment of various polyolefins with chromic acid, organic peroxides, andγ-radiation. The mechanisms of these surface treatments are discussed, in particular the relative importance of oxidation and crosslinking reactions. Adding a region of low strength to an oxidised polyethylene surface had little effect on the resultant bond strength.
