Microwave magnetoabsorption—virgin curves, hysteresis, and random fields in BSCCO

Abstract

We present a systematic study of the low (≲ 25 mT) field microwave magnetoabsorption in BSCCO as a function of temperature and magnetic history. It is shown that the virgin response (increase of absorption on first exposure to field) should be attributed to weak links while the hysteretic behavior happens because the weak links sense not only the applied field but also a gaussian distribution of random fields arising from flux trapped in the sample after it has been exposed to an external field.
