A new method for making permanent phytoplankton mounts

Summary

A simple method of mounting phytoplankton which allows for quantitative enumeration while at the same time providing a permanent record of the subsample is described. Tests for randomness were found to be significant indicating a homogeneous distribution of phytoplankton in these mounts. The advantages and disadvantages of the new method are discussed.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird eine einfache Methode beschrieben, die es erlaubt Phytoplankton für eine quantitative Aufzählung zu präparieren wobei die Präparate zugleich dauernd erhalten werden. Zufallsproben (random samples) erwiesen sich als stichhaltig und zeigten eine homogene Verteilung von Phytoplankton auf den Objektträgern an. Die Vorteile und Nachteile der neuen Methode werden erläutert.
