1.
An equation for the “apparent” plate efficiency coefficient of completely mixed plates in columns operated with entrained liquid has been derived.
-
2.
A method of calculating the number of completely mixed plates is proposed, and an equation for the mean plate efficiency coefficient has been derived; the effect of entrained liquid is taken into account, and the optimum amount entrained can be predicted.
-
3.
It has been proved that the effect of entrained liquid on the separation process is stronger as the m/R ratio is lower. The effect of entrained liquid may manifest itself particularly strongly if the column contains rather inefficient plates.
