A method is proposed for determining the amount of aromatic hydrocarbons in petroleum fractions by means of gas-liquid chromatography.

By using pentaerythrite tetra-Β-cyanethyl ether, it is possible to determine the amount of aromatic hydrocarbons in the 50-degree petroleum fractions boiling off below 200‡ C.
