An improved method of converting boiling points of petroleum fractions

  • Published:
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

On the basis of experimental dat'a, a correction graph for the currently operating standard nomogram for converting temperatures from reduced pressure to atmospheric has been prepared and is recommended.

In conversion using the correction graph, the divergence in temperature values for various pressures is not more than 5°C instead of the 35–40°C encountered upon conversion without using the graph.

  2. 2.

In distillation of heavy petroleum products, a McLeod compression manometer should be used for pressure measurements below 3 mm.

When a U-shaped manometer is used for a pressure below 2 mm, the error in temperature determination can reach 20°C or more.
