The Russian termoksol usually refers to a bodied vegetable oil with drying properties, while the Russian term for drying oils in general, olifa, refers to any type of drying oil formulation (including drier and thinner), whether natural or synthetic, that is used as a film-forming component of paints and varnishes. The termoksol has been retained in this translation in order to preserve this distinction, which apparently is not observed in the English language—Translator.
