Summary
-
1.
Supercharging to Pabs = 1.5 kg/cm2 in the IT9-3 single-cylinder diesel unit does not change the method for rating diesel fuel ignition quality as expressed in cetane units, using the standard method of “fixed ignition delay” (GOST 3132-52).
-
2.
Conversion scales from secondary to primary reference fuels with or without supercharge are identical. The error in the use of these scales to determine cetane numbers of diesel fuels of differing hydrocarbon composition and source is insignificant, i.e., is within the precision limits of the method.
-
3.
A relationship has been established between the compression ratio for “fixed ignition delay” (FID) and the ignition delay period (IDP) for fuels with cetane numbers from 20 to 60; this relationship can be used to determine the effect of supercharge on the FID compression ratio, the ignition delay period (IDP), and the ignition quality of the fuel expressed in cetane units.
