Summary
Sulfide-containing condensates, which are the most aggressive effluents in refineries, must be subjected to local purification to remove the sulfides before discharge to the main drainage system.
The method recommended is oxidation of the sulfides to the less aggressive thiosulfates in a froth apparatus at higher temperatures and pressures.
This oxidation plant must be designed so that condensates with any sulfide content can be purified, i.e., it must be able to operate both at 50–60°C and at 85–90°C
The cost of purifying 1 m s of condensate in an industrial apparatus will be about 30 kop.
