Rapid method of determining the softening point of oil bitumens

  • Published:
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

A novel method is proposed for determining the softening point of oil bitumens with high and moderate melting points; this method is suited for direct control in the manufacture of oil bitumens. With this method the softening point can be determined within 1 min.

  2. 2.

The time needed for the preparation of the sample for analysis may be reduced by keeping the bitumen sample in air for shorter times, and by pouring the bitumen sample directly from the place where it is taken into the ring-shaped space in the slab.
