Radiospectrometric method for quality control of lube oil additives

  • Published:
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

As a result of radiospectrometric studies of multifunctional motor oil additives, including calcium and barium sulfonates and alkylphenolates, and calcium, barium, and zinc dialkyldithiophosphates, it has been established that at room temperature these additives are solutions of stable free radicals in oil. Exceptions to this rule are the additives DF-11 and Santolube 493, which do not have any EPR spectrum at room temperature. The DF-11 dissociates into free radicals when heated to 160°C.

  2. 2.

An examination has been made of the prospective use of the radiospectrometric method of investigation in the development, production, and application of lube oil additives.
