Evaluation of grease oxidation stability under dynamic conditions

Summary

    A method is proposed for evaluating the oxidation stability of lubricating greases under dynamic conditions, on the basis of oxygen absorption rate.

    Good repeatability is demonstrated for this method. It is found that the oxidation rate and the induction period do not depend on the shaft speed in the reactor. The activation energy for the oxidation of lithium grease is found to be 18 kcal/mole.
