Equivalence of gasoline knock-rating equipment

  • Published:
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The existing procedure for assessing the operational suitability of type IT9-2 and IT9-6 equipments using only the ON of a mixture of 74% toluene and 26% n -heptane is inadequate.

  2. 2.

In order to exclude systematic error in assessing the equivalence of equipments, the following corrected parameters should be used: ON, compression pressure, and combustion chamber temperature measured by thermocouple.

  3. 3.

The equivalence of type IT9-2 and IT9-6 equipments should be assessed with two reference fuels—one with ON up to 90–95 and the other above 90–95.
