Abstract
The variation in hardness of 1Kh18N9T[1Cr18Ni9Ti] steel specimens owing to long-term loading at elevated temperatures in argon and liquid lithium was studied. It was shown that mechanical stresses activate the reaction of argon and lithium with steel which leads to substantial changes in hardness of steel, and the mechanism of phenomena associated with these changes was analyzed.
