Summary
-
1.
Simple and reliable photocolorimetric methods are proposed for determining the contents of copper, iron, aluminum, and chromium in used engine oils.
-
2.
The use of the recommended methods makes it feasible not only to determine the wear rate, but also to follow the dynamics of engine-part wear in evaluating the service properties of engine oils.
-
3.
The proposed methods do not require any special-purpose equipment and can be used in any plant laboratory to evaluate the antiwear properties of various grades of engine oils.
